In keeping with our commitment to environment-oriented projects, Youth for Nepal recently collaborated with Nyaya Health on a project to install a solar energy system at a hospital in Achham district of western Nepal. Nyaya Health is an organization aimed at "develop[ing] long-term, system-level improvements in healthcare delivery in impoverished areas" and is currently working mainly in Achham. The final report for the second consecutive RHEPAS project that YFN sponsored is now available for your perusal. [PDF, 792 KB].
YFN is pleased to announce the second year of Reproductive Health Education Program for Adolescents in School (RHEPAS) (read about last year's program here). YFN, in collaboration with Nepal Medical Students Society (NMSS), is conducting RHEPAS in five public and five private schools in the districts of Kavre, Sindupalchok, Nuwakot, Dhading and Makwanpur. The program will take place May 2011 through July 2011. At the end of the project, about 2,000 adolescents will have received reproductive health education from medical students and doctors from the Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital, one of Nepal’s leading medical colleges.
RHEPAS has also been endorsed by International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) and has been selected as one of the top 5 projects of IFMSA to be included in the projects bulletin.
The main goals of the project are:
Following the successful completion of RHEPAS program last year, YFN has allocated $1430 for this program this year as well. Of the total amount, the first installment of $715 has been disbursed to NMSS. The remaining amount will be disbursed upon 50% completion of the project. Upon completion of the project, NMSS and YFN will have detailed reports, pictures and video materials available on this website.
Youth for Nepal is in the process of completing three different school renovation projects started in late 2010: one in the north-eastern Sindhupalchowk district and two in the south-western Dang district.

As we noted before, the renovation of Bhatte Primary School was carried out in collaboration with the Santi School Project. In collaboration with Nepal Youth Awareness Organization (NYAO), Youth for Nepal sponsored the renovation of this school, which also started in late 2010 and is now complete.
